Bike Power

I live in the Portland Oregon area. For the last 30 plus years Portland has been on a path to make the city of Portland unfriendly to cars. Public transportation in the form of "Light Rail" has been a mania for the leadership of the city. The streets of the city are constantly under construction to improve the public transportation agenda. Now top it off with the bike friendly insanity of the city council and mayor of Portland. Bike lanes everywhere. Bike boxes to protect the cyclists from the imminent threat of the demon automobile. Virtually no enforcement of rules of the road when it comes to cyclists. And now to top off the insanity there is a proposal to change the law to allow cyclists to simply slow down at stop signs rather than come to a full stop. Ultimately this will result in more bike accidents and automobiles will be the default culprit. On the rare occasions that I drive through Portland I am a nervous wreck as I am surrounded by cyclists who feel impervious to the 2 tons of steel that I am driving. They seem to feel that God is on their side seeing that the government is on their side.

The obvious solution to this ongoing problem has been overlooked. Bikes are for kids and should be banned for anyone over 16. When you are old enough to have a drivers license stop riding the damn bike. Grow up and drive a car!

Stop the insanity.
